Kupwara to export red rice, walnuts soon

Kupwara, Dec 15: Northern Kashmir’s Kupwara will soon be exporting its famed red rice and walnuts as flagship products from the district.

This was said during the maiden meeting of District Level Export Promotion Committee (DLEPC) of Kupwara chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Anshul Garg, on Tuesday, according to an official spokesperson.

The committee decided to promote red rice and walnuts as export products from the district at the first instance and in future marble and other products of the district.

The DC directed all stakeholders to redouble their efforts in identifying the areas and products for proper development so that more products could be exported and the district becomes an export hub.

He also stressed the need for holding mass awareness regarding the programme and directed the concerned to provide necessary technical know-how and support to the entrepreneurs of the district.

On the occasion, the DC was informed that the Agriculture Department has started work on the processing of export of red rice from the border area Tangdhar that could be placed in the market in the standard of 1kg, 2 kg and 5 kg packs soon.
