Srinagar, Sept 27: Director Horticulture, Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat Sunday visited Anantnag to inspect various units established under Post Harvest Management (PHM) viz Pack Houses, low-cost preservation units, CA Stores etc.
He visited Fruit Preservation Centre Achabal and instructed Manager to conduct training courses in the art of fruit and vegetable preservation so that the local youth may establish their own ventures.
The Director also took stock of departmental nurseries and issued strict instructions to Chief Horticulture officer to develop the mother orchards of different varieties in these nurseries and multiply latest high-quality rootstocks.
He took a detailed stock of high-density plantation programme and medium density orchards as an activity to increase the returns manifold.
The Director issued directions for providing technical knowhow to growers on various aspects of fruit growing. Chief Horticulture Officer was directed to guide fruit growers about scientific harvesting/grading.
During the interaction, Director Horticulture stressed upon the farmers to avail benefits of all developmental schemes under implementation by the Department.
During the visit, the Director was accompanied by Chief Horticulture Officer Anantnag.
